ACCOMMODATIONS

Most lodges and tented camps in the national parks are high quality, and many have spectacular views. First, some basics:

Lodges
Safi Safaris uses lodges that are well maintained and are located in superior locations. Rooms normally have two single beds or one double, and en-suite Lake Manyara Serena bathrooms with cold and hot water. These facilities offer good food, a bar/lounge, and usually a gift shop. Price wise, lodges vary from as cheap as "basic mobile camping" to very pricy indeed. Prices nearly always reflect quality. Our preference is for smaller individually owned lodges which, like Safi Safaris, can offer a more intimate service. We also use the chain lodges in some locations.

Tented Camps/Tented Lodges
Permanent or semi-permanent tented camps or lodges enable you to more closely experience the pristine Tanzanian bush. Like the great white hunters of days gone by, you'll enjoy having the sounds and smells of Africa all around you. Today, however, tented camps also offer all the luxuries you could want, including gourmet food, hot water, and warm campfires. Again prices range from mid-price to high. It depends on the level of luxury, perhaps there is an extensive wildlife library or telescope for star gazing and exclusivity.

Mobile camps
On many of our tours, specially in the Serengeti eco-system, we suggest you stay in mobile tented camps. We can offer three different styles of mobile camping, basic Camping (shown) includes Budget mobile campingdome tents, sleeping pads, and basic facilities. In the mid price range we offer more exclusivity, walk in tents with private toilet and shower facilities, a mess tent with chairs and tables. More expensive than all other choices are Luxury Mobile Camps which include walk-in tents with beds, linens, etc. and more extensive bathroom facilities, dining tents with full tabaleware etc., and complete exclusivity. These camps are placed to ensure the best game viewing during the day and complete privacy at night.

We recommend the following accomodations.
Oliver's Camp in Tarangire for the dry season (15 June to 31 October) and for the first time on the edge of the Serengeti eco-system at Sanjam during the rainy season (15 December to 15 May). Both camps are set in beautiful pristine areas where few other tourists go. Hiking with expert guides is integral to this wonderful experience.
Ndutu Safari Lodge in the southern Serengeti eco-system is on the edge of the short grass plains, with its own system of lakes and woodlands. An old style lodge, brought thoroughly up to date and with its own special atmosphere.
Gibbs Farm at Karatu which is between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro
The Plantation Lodge, also near Karatu is another delightful lodge to spend a night between Manyara and Ngorongoro
Tarangire Safari Lodge. This delightful tented lodge, which also has a few bungalows for those who do not wish to stay in a tent. Of all the many places we have seen in Africa, this is our favourite view, from your tent you can watch the wildlife action unfolding before you. Otherwise, this is a comfortable, family style lodge.
Kisima Ngeda Camp, for those who would like to spend a couple of nights away from it all, is on the shores of Lake Eyasi, below the Ngorongoro Highlands. From here you can visit the Hadzabe, the only bushmen left in Tanzania, or just spend a couple of days in this bamboo forest, walking and bird watching. The permanent camp is very small with excellent food and service and there is also a delightful camp site.
