ACTIVITIES AND ADD-ONS

Maasai boys during their initiation into the warrior or morani groupOn this page we offer some exciting activities that can be incorporated into your safari while others - usually lasting a day or longer - can be added on at the beginning or end (or occasionally in the middle) of your safari.

Many of you request some walking or hiking, and while we believe this is one of the best ways to explore the wild places in Africa, there are certain restrictions. In some parks walking is not allowed, while in other areas, the costs are high. So while we include short optional walks (from one to four hours) as an integral part of our safari at some destinations, at others we suggest them to you here as an extra activity or as longer add-ons at the beginning or end, or even in the middle of your safari. An impala peers under the belly of a giraffe Please note, also, that hiking is an important part or your only means of transport in some national parks, Selous, Gombe, Mahale, Katavi, Rubondo Island and above all Mt Kilimanjaro. Please note that prices of these activities are per person

near Lake Eyasi below the Ngorongoro Highlands. Camp or
stay in a tented camp in a bamboo forest facing Lake Eyasi.

Meet the Iraq, of Cushitic origin and Datoga people nilotic pastoralists, drive and hike to their home near Hanang Mountain, south west of Tarangire

Kilimanjaro from the coffee plantationSpend a day or two on the lower slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro, at a coffee plantation. Walk, ride on horseback, learn about farm life on this mixed farm and veterinary practice, meet some of the local Chagga community at their successful dairy project.

Drive on from Kilimanjaro to the Pare mountains, and the beautiful but seldom visited Mkomazi Game Reserve, on to the Lushoto Hills to walk, bird watch and learn about this completely different eco-system, then on to the beach for a few days' relaxation.
