Accommodations: Tented Lodges, lodges and mobile camping
Season: Year round, but the itinerary could change in different seasons
Fitness Rating: Easy/Moderate

A very similar itinerary to the Classic Safari, but accommodations are within the mid-price range. We have chosen tented lodges and lodges which we can thoroughly recommend and our mid-range mobile camping is really excellent.
|
| Day 1 | Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. We'll meet you there and transfer you to Mt Village Lodge. This lodge overlooks a small crater lake (Lake Duluti) and with beautiful gardens is a delightful place to stay for your first two nights in Tanzania. |
| Day 2 | After breakfast drive to Arusha National Park. Here you have an opportunity to take a half day hike up the lower slopes of Mt. Meru, Africa's fourth highest mountain. Walk through the montane rain forest, look out for the beautiful black and white colobus monkeys, bush buck, as well as the more commonly seen giraffe and buffalo. After a picnic lunch, enjoy a short game drive in other parts of this small, beautiful park. Or, if you prefer, spend the whole day in the vehicle on game drives. At the end of the day drive back to Mountain Village for dinner and overnight. |
| Day 3 | Today drive to Tarangire National Park, home to some of the most beautiful bush in the country. Drive to Tarangire Safari Lodge for lunch, spotting game on the way. Here, on the terrace or your private verandah you can sit and watch the wildlife come down to the Tarangire River to drink. This tented lodge is situated in one of the most beautiful spots in Africa. An afternoon game drive will offer you the opportunity to explore for impala, giraffes, zebra, warthogs, and Coke's hartebeest, maybe even the rare kudu. Drive back to Tarangire Safari Lodge for dinner, then fall asleep to the sounds of the bush. |
| Day 4 | Spend today in Tarangire, perhaps drive to Silale swamp where you may see hundreds of elephants together, perhaps huge herds of buffalo. If conditions are good, you may see a solitary leopard lounging in a tree branch, or a pride of lions eyeing potential prey as they come to drink from the park's namesake river or the Silale Swamp. Return to your lodge for lunch or spend the day out with a picnic lunch. Perhaps you would prefer to go on a walk this morning? Dinner and overnight again at Tarangire Safari Lodge |
| Day 5 | After a leisurely breakfast, leave Tarangire and drive to Lake Manyara National Park for game drives. Take a picnic lunch and look for the hippos, lions in trees, flamingo on the lake, blue monkey in the ground water forest. At the end of the day drive up the Eastern Rift Valley wall to your lodge Kirurumu Luxury Tented Lodge, for dinner and overnight. This lodge is set on top of the escarpment with wonderful views over the lake. |
| Day 6 | An early start for an optional morning canoe trip on the Lake or a walk or spend this morning in Lake Manyara National Park. Take a picnic lunch with you for added flexibility, or go back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon you can further explore Lake Manyara National Park by car. When you are ready, drive up the escarpment and on to the Ngorongoro Highlands to your lodge for tonight, the Plantation Lodge, maybe arrive in time for a swim, walks in the gardens and surrounds or just to relax in this delightful lodge, which is set in an old farm on the lower, outer slopes of Ngorongoro. Dinner and overnight here. |
| Day 7 | After breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a World Heritage Site and home to nearly 25,000 animals. A picturesque spot, the crater is home to Cape buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, jackals, hyena, lions, leopard, and the rare black rhino. Spend the morning watching the wildlife, then enjoy a picnic lunch at Ngoitokitok Springs as hippos jostle for position in the water. See more of the crater in the afternoon, then return to the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge for dinner. Overnight here. |
| Day 8 | Breakfast at the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, then make your way to Olduvai Gorge, site of Louis and Mary Leakey's famous discoveries of ancient humans and their cousins. As you continue the Serengeti Plains will unfold before you. If Mother Nature has cooperated, the plains will be full of gazelle, zebra and some of the 1.5 million wildebeest that come here to feed and calve. With these huge numbers of herbivores come the attendant predators and scavengers--lions, hyena, cheetah, jackal and vultures--looking to pick off a young calf for a meal. Make your way to your private tented camp in the Lake Ndutu area. Dinner and overnight here. |
| Day 9 | Today you will drive to your mobile camp, which we will erect in the area where the wildlife is. Tonight and for the next two nights you will spend in a special camp site - in the right place at the right time, to allow you to follow the herds and explore the famous Serengeti Plains. Dinner and overnight at your camp. |
| Day 10 | Spend the day exploring the great Serengeti eco-system, take a picnic lunch or go back to your camp for lunch and an afternoon rest, before going out again at the end of the day. Dinner under the stars and overnight in your walk-in tent, where you sleep in a camp bed. |
| Day 11 | Enjoy more exploring and game viewing at your own pace. |
| Day 12 | Drive to Seronera, in the center of the Serengeti National Park. Here, you'll say goodbye to your guide and board your flight to Arusha. You will arrive in time for an afternoon shuttle bus to Nairobi or for some shopping in Arusha and an early supper, before catching your flight from Kilimanjaro International Airport, again, we provide all transfers, lunch and supper. |
